Continuing Education
All continuing education courses have been cumulatively reviewed and approved by the Interior Design Continuing Education Council [IDCEC], the organization that serves as a central entity for the sharing of interior design continuing education information, approval, and registration. The three IDCEC core member organizations – ASID [American Society of Interior Designers], IDC [Interior Designers of Canada] and IIDA [International Interior Design Association] – work together to approve continuing education courses.
Information for Texas Registered Interior Designers:
The Texas Board of Architectural Examiners [TBAE] calls courses with Health / Safety / Welfare [HSW] content CEPHs or Continuing Education Program Hours. Understand that in the state of Texas, it ultimately is the discretion of TBAE – the regulatory agency that oversees the examination, registration, and professional regulation of interior designers, as well as architects and landscape architects – to deem whether the content of a course qualifies as HSW. GO HERE to find out TBAE's continuing education requirements for for Texas Registered Interior Designers [RID]. GO HERE to find out what TBAE considers Supporting Documentation. If you are a Texas RID, GO HERE to download a TBAE CEPH log sheet (in PDF form) to keep track of your CEPHs.
Information for practitioner members of ASID and IIDA:
All practitioner members of ASID (Professional and Allied) and IIDA (Professional and Associate) have continuing education requirements related to maintaining membership in those respective organizations. These requirements are completely independent from individual state licensing continuing education requirements, and the content of these classes can be any coursework that supports your own professional development plan and advances your professionalism as an interior designer. GO HERE for information on ASID’s requirements, and GO HERE for information on IIDA’s requirements.
Information for active NCIDQ Certificate Holders who choose to track their continuing education through NCIDQ's CE Registry:
In March 2011, the National Council for Interior Design Qualification, Inc. [NCIDQ] launched a new online continuing education registry service for active Certificate holders that replaces the 15-year old paper-based continuing education registry, which requires participants to mail in forms and pay $12 to add each class they take into their registry. The paper-based system will be available to anyone until June 30, 2011. Effective July 1, 2011, NCIDQ will no longer add any items to the registry, but the transcripts will still be available until June 30, 2012. The online registry is tied to a Certificate holder’s MyNCIDQ account and is available at no additional cost. GO HERE to find out more.
