METROCON08 Expo & Conference Continuing Education Information

For information on the keynote event, visit the KEYNOTE page. For a comprehensive schedule of the two-day event, visit the OVERVIEW page. For travel and location information, visit the TRAVEL page.

Important note for interior designers registered in the state of Texas:
All continuing education courses, including the Keynote, have been cumulatively reviewed and approved by the Interior Design Continuing Education Council [IDCEC], the organization that serves as a central entity for the sharing of interior design continuing education information, approval, and registration. The four IDCEC member organizations – ASID [American Society of Interior Designers], IDC [Interior Designers of Canada], IDEC [Interior Design Educators Council], & IIDA [International Interior Design Association] - work together to approve continuing education courses. As a result, courses approved through one of these organizations are approved for all these organizations. Those classes that count as CEPHs - that is, those that are designated as as Health / Safety / Welfare [HSW] and count toward the required eight (8) hours per year - are designated as such below.

Please know that in the state of Texas, it ultimately is the discretion of the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners [TBAE] – the regulatory agency that oversees the examination, registration, and professional regulation of interior designers, as well as architects and landscape architects – to deem a course as HSW, not IDCEC. To download a TBAE CEPH log sheet to keep track of your continuing education hours, please visit the TBAE website: www.tbae.state.tx.us.

It's amazing, the progress our society has made, even in the last 100 years. Moving from the industrial age to the information age, from horses to cars, handwritten letters to Morse code, to the internet and myspacec. What we haven't fully realized is that the progress comes with a huge price tag. Some things that we take for granted as "good" - or things we think have made our lives easier... haven't. When we come to a deeper understanding of a particular material that is in a product or a particular process that is used to create a new product, we begin to realize the impact of the choices we make each day. It's why we are here today - to explore how the material choices we make - as consumers, architects, designers, facilities managers, project managers... each day - can have either a positive or negative impact on human health, and the health of the planet. Come experience the good, the bad, and the ugly of materials selection.
